Kate Mikhaylichenko Becomes a Licensed Professional Engineer
WICHITA, KANSAS— Kate Mikhaylichenko, former Engineer-in-Training in our Wichita office, recently passed the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam and is now a licensed Professional Engineer. Kate will now work as a Design Engineer in Wichita on various types of projects.
Although she took her PE exam with a focus on Transportation, Kate works on a variety of projects, like commercial and residential developments in Wichita. Now that she’s licensed, Kate hopes to expand her career.
“I would like to start using my license and maybe get licensed in other states, which would be beneficial for the office and for the company as well,” she said. “I also want to get more involved in local engineering chapters. Now when the pandemic is kind of dying out and everything gets back to life, it would be good to be more involved in them. I have already started managing some of my projects, so maybe I would like to get more into project management as well, but still do design. I like design. So that’s probably the goal for the next year and from there, we’ll see.”
She also hopes to help expand the Wichita office’s engineering staff.
“For me, it would be more beneficial to have other engineers in the office with whom I can discuss engineering, ask for advice or give advice if it’s a younger engineer,” Kate said.
The PE exam tests for competency in engineering. Individuals who wish to become a licensed Professional Engineer must gain at least four years of work experience before taking the exam. Kate encourages all civil engineers to take the PE exam.
“I think it’s a very valuable thing to do for the engineer, especially we are in the civil engineering world, so I think it’s very valuable and it gives me a lot more opportunities,” she said.
Kate completed her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the People’s Friendship University in Russia. She earned her master’s degree in Engineering Management from Wichita State University.
