We're Accepting Applications for Our 2022 Paid Summer Internships

2022 Civil Engineering Internships in Kansas

Benefits of a Civil Engineering Internship

In almost every career field, internships are a way to gain experience and insight into the industry, and it’s no different in civil engineering. We are excited to be accepting applications for our 2022 paid summer internships in multiple offices. Here’s what it’s like to intern with us.

Kaw Valley Engineering provides a paid summer internship program for high school seniors and college students interested in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry. The internship program is well-suited for students who would like to gain real-world, hands-on experience.

What Should You Expect?

Our interns have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in construction materials testing, surveying, drafting and civil design. They are mentored by senior engineers and work with other leaders within their specified office location. This program includes construction site visits, educational seminars and company social events.

Our focus for our interns is to provide a learning experience where they will obtain real-world knowledge that will help them to understand the theories and methods that they are being taught in their course of study. Previous interns state that the experience in various departments helped tie together classes at school and create a better understanding of the civil engineering industry.

“This internship was a great opportunity to compare what I have learned in school to real world scenarios,” a prior intern said.

How Will This Internship Benefit You?

In addition to connecting your coursework in school with real-world projects, you will have the opportunity to build relationships and gain experience with multiple departments at Kaw Valley Engineering. Our interns can gain experience in our surveying, engineering, drafting and materials testing departments, enhancing productivity for our entire team.

“With the work I was given, I felt as though I was actually helping the overall process rather than just doing busy work,” a past intern said. “This helped me get excited about coming to work.”

Interns will benefit from our experienced team, diverse workloads and clientele, and unparalleled mentoring. Our family environment and flexible work schedule promote a work-life balance that larger firms often fail to emulate. A past intern explains how an internship at Kaw Valley Engineering helped open their eyes to the AEC industry.

“This internship was a window into my future career as a Civil Engineer,” the intern said. “I learned a lot about the process of completing a project, and that was invaluable for me. Seeing how projects passed through different people was a huge eye opener for how real-world engineering works.”

Overall, we’re happy to provide a unique experience to our interns that make civil engineering coursework more understandable and provide the possibility for real-world experience in surveying, engineering, drafting, materials testing and more.

“I learned so much that I know will be a foundation to build on down the road,” said a previous intern.
