Margaret Kempf Passes PE Exam in MO and KS

Margaret Kempf Becomes Licensed Engineer in Missouri & Kansas

JUNCTION CITY, KANSAS – Margaret Kempf, PE, Bridge Design Engineer, recently passed her Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam and is now a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Missouri and Kansas. She has aspirations to obtain her licensing in Nebraska as well.

The PE exam tests for competency in engineering. Individuals who wish to become a licensed Professional Engineer must take the exam plus gain at least four years of work experience. Margaret has been in the engineering field for nearly seven years, starting with summer and winter internships in the Bridge Department at MoDOT. After gaining more experience with another firm, she decided it was time to take a job with Kaw Valley Engineering. One of the major benefits that drew Margaret to our firm was the ability to work on a much wider variety of projects and to be involved with the entire scope instead of just one portion.

“After working for five years at a large firm, I wanted a change of pace with a smaller, more local firm. I wanted to explore the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of my projects, something I believe I’m more likely to achieve at a smaller firm,” Margaret said. “I also was intrigued by the opportunity to help grow the bridge group at KVE through mentoring younger EIT’s, providing my expertise in the field and working directly with clients to meet their project needs through keeping their bridges safe and their communities connected.”

Although Margaret has not been with Kaw Valley Engineering long, she plans to make a large impact. She has worked on projects such as the Ascher Road over Clark’s Creek Bridge Project and the Lyon Creek Road Bridge Project. She has her eyes set on making a larger impact with the company and the communities we serve.

“I look forward to having the opportunity to support local communities with their bridge projects through establishing a solid foundation of bridge engineers at KVE who are equipped to provide excellent and quality plans and designs for everything from bridge inspections and repairs to bridge replacements,” she said.

Margaret simultaneously completed her bachelor’s degrees in Civil Engineering and General Engineering from University of North Dakota and Benedictine respectfully. More recently, she completed her Master of Business Administration at the University of Kansas.
