Jeff Madsen, PE, joins KVE after career with MoDOT

MoDOT Engineer Joins Team

JUNCTION CITY – Jeff Madsen, PE, recently joined the ranks of Kaw Valley Engineering as a Project Engineer. He joined Kaw Valley Engineering with an extensive tenure in the engineering field.

“I started my career as an engineer nearly 34 years ago,” Jeff said. “After retiring from MoDOT after 30+ years, I started looking at the private sector.”

Jeff graduated from University of Missouri Rolla (now Missouri University of Science and Technology) with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1989. He gained his license to practice engineering in Missouri in 1994. He has been involved in many different aspects of civil engineering that include transportation design, bridge design and inspection, bridge load rating, construction engineering and more.

But he says getting his PE (Professional Engineer) license was his greatest achievement to date.

“Getting my PE license is my greatest achievement to date,” Jeff says. “A lot of people in my early life were convinced I could never get through college but I persevered and earned my degree. Four years later, I took my PE license exam and passed on the first time.”

Jeff’s career has come with many achievements as well. When you talk about projects he is most proud of, he shares projects where he leads teams to improve communities and save money.

“The project I am most proud of is the Safe and Sound bridge improvement project in Missouri,” Jeff says. “With my help, we improved 884 bridges throughout the state in three years and $100 million under budget. We also finished everything with an entire year to spare!”

The Safe and Sound bridge project was also an award winner.

“The project won several awards including the AASHTO Peoples Choice Award,” he says. AASHTO is The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. It is a nonprofit association that represents highway and transportation departments in all 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Asking Jeff what he looks forward the most about working at Kaw Valley Engineering, he looks forward to expanding the communities we serve.

“I look forward to helping Kaw Valley Engineering grow in new geographical areas,” Jeff said.

Jeff has a positive outlook on his career at Kaw Valley Engineering and brings a diverse background to the company.
