Women in Engineering are an Asset.

Women in Engineering

According to the Congressional Joint Economic Committee, a significant opportunity exists to increase female representation in the engineering field, as currently only 14% of working professionals in engineering are women. While civil engineering faces an even lower percentage, we believe that positive change is possible.

With women already being underrepresented in our field, the number of women in leadership roles can be even more limited. However, at Kaw Valley Engineering, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment. We understand that the current scarcity of women in engineering can potentially deter students from pursuing this rewarding career path. Nevertheless, we see this as an opportunity to provide support and empower more women to join the engineering workforce.

Within our company, we have inspiring women in leadership positions, such as Jennifer Lindsley and Jessica Nixon, PE, who are valued members of our Board of Directors, and Margaret Donoho, PE, who is an accomplished leader in our Bridge Design team. These exceptional employees in our firm serve as mentors and role models, paving the way for future generations of women in engineering.

We prioritize creating an inclusive workplace culture that benefits all engineers. We understand the importance of work-life balance, especially for those who may desire to grow their families while advancing their careers. At Kaw Valley Engineering, we work closely with our employees to ensure their needs are met, offering flexible scheduling, remote work options, and paid time off packages.

In our commitment to bridging the gender gap, we collaborate with various universities in the Midwest to recruit and hire talented engineers regardless of age, color, sex, disability, national origin, race, religion or veteran status. Through internships and employment opportunities upon graduation, we provide valuable experiences to aspiring college students, allowing them to thrive in the engineering field.

While progress takes time, we acknowledge that more work needs to be done to eliminate gender inequality in engineering. Kaw Valley Engineering remains steadfast in our commitment to hiring and promoting the most exceptional engineers, regardless of gender. We firmly believe that being a woman in the engineering field is an asset, and we strive to make it an environment where all individuals can flourish. Together, we can create a future where the gender gap in engineering is a thing of the past.
